In March of 2025, we reached out to the Seacoast NH/ME community to see if there was any interest in providing opportunities to practice speaking Spanish. We found enormous interest in our in-person groups, both learning Spanish as a beginner, as well as improving speaking skills, and feeling more comfortable conversing in Spanish. Many people who majored in Spanish in college find themselves unable to speak when they travel, so they have found our program to be enormously helpful in becoming more comfortable with conversation.
For beginners, our program is designed to allow you to speak basic sentences from the very first encounter. With weekly practice and encouragement, you will enjoy learning to communicate in Spanish, and your confidence will soar with the goal of becoming more fluent. At Vive Español, we also offer private conversation sessions. For these students, we formulate a program specifically tailored to the participants’ goals and level so that these students can accelerate quickly.
The main tutor in our groups is a native of Guanajuato, Mexico – Marcos Olvera. He has lived in the United States for 25 years, so he is fluent in both Spanish and English. In any of the groups, we laugh a lot and support each other’s learning, and great friendships are formed with other people who love the Spanish language. With every interaction, we strive to teach correct Spanish, as well as colloquialisms and slang, with the goal of being comfortable and confident in communicating with others, whether it is in our weekly session with other New Englanders or in Spanish-speaking countries when traveling.
As our program has evolved, we have sensed the need for an immersive Spanish experience, so we are planning our first trip to Guanajuato, Mexico, in January of 2027. Future trips include other special Mexican cities, such as Oaxaca, San Cristobal de Las Casas in Chiapas, and Mexico City (including Puebla and Taxco).
